Getting a better deal abroad
We all work hard for our money so it is only natural to want it to work as hard for us, be it on the amount it can buy us, or the interest it earns in the bank. But making sure that it does, takes some effort and research.

If things go wrong
Sometimes holidays can take on a nightmarish quality with substandard accommodation and food poisoning spoiling a long awaited trip. If things do wrong make sure you get a better deal on an insurance claim or compensation by following these steps:
- Complaining in writing while you are away – either to the travel rep or the hotel itself if you booked direct and keep copies of all correspondence
- Take photos as evidence
- Get names and addresses of fellow travellers who are also affected so you can act as witnesses or complain together
- If you are ill get medical reports from the doctor, and keep all medication receipts
- If items are stolen get a police report. You’ll need a lost luggage form from the airline if your suitcases go astray and ensure you retain all travel documents
- If you can’t resolve the problems whilst abroad complain in writing as soon as you return. Keep notes of all conversations.
